Banning Big Clips Is Supported by Robert A. Levy, Famous Libertarian Gun Rights Attorney

Robert A. Levy, of the Cato Institute, co-counsel for the landmark SCOTUS decision in the District of Columbia v Heller case on behalf of 2nd Amendment Rights, came out in support of the proposals by Democratic legislators to limit the gun clips which hold the large number of bullets used by the shooter of Congresswoman Giffords a week ago.  Levy said:
“I don’t see any constitutional bar to regulating high-capacity magazines,” Levy said in an interview with NBC. “Justice (Antonin) Scalia made it quite clear some regulations are permitted. The Second Amendment is not absolute.”
“It may stop a few of these looney tunes,” Levy said. While saying that he saw it as a “close call," he said that a restriction of “10 to 15 rounds makes sense.”
Meanwhile, the Tea Party astro-turf group which hauled Palin around the country last year in specially painted luxury buses to appear at staged events is using the tragedy in Arizona for fundraising in an example of what may be the winner in the race for the right to tastelessly try to exploit 2nd Amendment paranoia.
“It is quite clear that liberals are trying to exploit this shooting for their own political benefit, and they used deception and dishonesty to try and smear all of us and our beliefs,” the letter reads. “You know what the truth is? The truth is that the shooter, Jared Loughner is the one responsible for this atrocity. But liberals are trying to place the blame on society for embracing the tea party movement.”
This will come as something of a surprise to Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy of New York, sponsor of the legislation in the house, who has opposed these clips since her husband was killed and her son injured in a Long Island mass shooting back in 1993.  She didn't need this as a pretext of any kind; it is why she ran for Congress in 1996.  The only people trying to exploit or capitalize on a tragedy is the Tea Party Express.

It's no surprise they supported Palin; they like to see themselves as the victim in this tragedy too - $$$$$.

  1. I'm glad you said that about their seeing themselves as victims. That plays a very large role in the gun-rights movement.
