Jon Stewart, smart man

  1. It is common practice as part of a drivers license training program that a video is show of accidents and injuries that can occur as a result of driver error ... I suspect that the theory is to warn new drivers of the damage they could cause by accidents. I am unaware of any footage of someone deliberately driving to maim others ... yet, I wonder is that the reason why the autopsy photos from Sandy Hook has not been shown ?

The Bush Administration denied filming of caskets returning to America ... why ? Out of respect for the families and the dead ... or because people would question Why our citizen-soldier were there ?

The same is true for Sandy Hook ... when you read that the first responders who responded were so traumatized that they weren't working and had to use sick time and risked going without a paycheck ... would that change opinions whether we should restrict the size of the magazine clip ?

  2. I think in the case of Sandy Hook, the damage was so horrible - bodies with huge holes, major parts of heads, and faces and skulls shot away, incredible amounts of blood, organs liquified because of the kind and quantity of ammo involved...

I don't think there can be any real argument that these 'semi-auto' weapons have the capacity to spray fire and that the magazine size is an issue, if you looked at the post I did with the Steve Sack cartoon.

For the sake of victims, for the sake of law enforcement we have to prevent civilian ownership of these weapons, these magazines, and any weapons that function like them. The argument that they are needed for hunting or self-defense is bullshit.

These weapons are putting all of us at risk, all the time. Enough is enough. I hope people don't need the graphics to persuade them. This should be a decision we can avoid without risking sensationalizing the deaths, or further traumatizing the families of the victims as much as possible, or the first responders.

I know they see a lot of horrible things in the course of their jobs, but we can only hope that most of it is unintentional or accidental; there is something uniquely horrifying about that kind of deliberate violence as at Sandy Hook or Aurora, or even the most recent mass shooting with an AR 15 in New Mexico.
