On Tuesday May 31, 2011 Democratic candidate JoAnne Kloppenburg announced she would not challenge the GAB certification of results for the election to the Wisconsin State Supreme Court. She graciously congratulated her opponent, who lost his enormous lead over Kloppenburg, and who won under election circumstances which were widely reported to have serious irregularities.
I have to admit that given the nature and extent of those irregularities, I'm disappointed that Kloppenburg did not challenge the election results. Those irregularities made it very clear that Wisconsin, which does not require the hand count that we do here in MN, did not very strictly follow their own election laws.
Minnesota could do well to emulate Wisconsin's recall provisions, but they could improve their election procedures and definitely would do well to copy our recount laws.
