The sheriff in OR who says he will NOT enforce federal laws is an attention whore. He doesn't have to do anything about federal laws unless he has someone in custody and a federal warrant shows up in a query OR concurrent with a state law being broken, the federal law is also broken-think bank robber crossing a state line with proceeds from a hold-up. So, he's getting a lot of All-MurKKKan hero treatment and really hasn't done anything, yet.
BTW, what is it with all of the police chiefs wearing four stars?
Actually, what is interesting is that there are at least three sheriffs in Oregon who have refused to enforce laws.....and all three made their declaration in identically worded letters on their official letterhead.
My curiosity is about the national organization of rogue sheriffs, and are they all using the same language. My bet is that all or at least most of them are. Not the smartest bunch, clearly, or terribly original. I suspect if we look at the MN Pine County crazy right wing extremist gun nut and the rest there will be a common link connecting them. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the NRA at the other end of the link, or some group that shares a common point of political extremism.
They tend to be part of the so-called patriot movement, but there is nothing patriotic about them, nor does anyone but themselves seem impressed with their pseudo-constitutional scholarship.
I suspect they will have stepped over that line, if they really don't follow the law, that puts them on the wrong side of legal, especially if they take up arms, as so many have threatened to do in the past among the oath keepers and other of the authoritarian right.
