The problem with the escalation of military grade weapons in civilian hands, especially conservative religious fanatics who want a theocracy

Throw in 'hate education', because you want your armed citizens ignorant so the theocrats can more easily control them, lie to them, and exploit them. That sounds like the tea party to me.
