The Second Anniversary of the Tucson shooting

We have had 11 mass shootings since the shooting of Gabby Giffords two years ago today.

That is considerably more than other developed countries, countries where they have better, more restrictive gun control. The numbers prove it, state compared to state within the U.S., and country compared to similar country - gun control works. Only silly people who hold delusional notions about guns think otherwise.

Fortunately a number of gun owners, including those like Gabby Giffords, and her astronaut husband Mark Kelly, agree, and lend their considerable support and expertise to that effort. The pair will make a formidable opposition to the corrupt NRA when Vice President Biden makes his recommendations later this month.

Turtleman Mitch McConnell is wrong when he said this will sit on the back burner; the nation's capital will address this NOW, not in three months, six months or longer.  The attempt to delay it being addressed is just one more effort to distract, to hope that the anger and pain will dissipate into inaction. That is not going to be allowed to happen, not this time.  For one thing, the trial of James Holmes from the Aurora, Colorado mass shooting has begun.  Mass shootings will remain front and center of our attention for the foreseeable future.

More than 410 people have been shot since the Sandy Hook elementary school mass shooting, including three policemen.  The tipping point has been reached; this time there will be action, not apathy. If the turtleman opposes this, he could easily find himself voted out next time around. What a shame we have to wait until 2014 to see the remaining bad apples tossed out of the federal basket.  The polls are clear, elections have consequences, and elections ARE consequences, and they are very unpleasant comeuppances for the conservatives, but well deserved.

  1. FYI ... Americans For Responsible Solutions is the Giffords-Kelly group that will encourage elected officials to stand up for solutions to prevent gun violence and protect responsible gun ownership by communicating directly with the constituents that elect them.
