Thank you Mr. Keillor

While at first blush this struck me as just unpleasant name calling, if you take them one by one, they do identify albeit pejoratively, segments of the GOP extremists. The categories are alarmingly homogeneous, despite these differences.

Keillor is someone who has traveled widely, and who is a shrewd observer of human nature and behavior as the foundation of his fictional characters, it merits a more thoughtful look than just a superficial reaction. I believe his assessment of how we are viewed across the rest of the world has validity.

Too often when how we are viewed by the rest of the world is brought up, right wing partisans blow it off, disparage the rest of the world, and assert that only what the United States thinks matters.  That is not true.  More than that, the only part of the United States about which they give a damn are people who validate them and agree with them; dissent or thoughtful disagreement is discredited, denied and ignored.
