Yesterday, the MainStreamMedia was abuzz that the Roman Catholic Pope was resigning ... but meanwhile a protest was going on at the Wailing Wall in Israel.
The protest was over a woman's involvement in religion ... and when you consider that the Roman Catholic Church has rules that limit a woman's abilities to engage in church activities, the Wailing Wall protest has relevence.
The women were taken into custody because they were wearing ritual prayer shawls which are only to be worn by men ... yep, the Israeli Police arrest people over religious protests.
This comment is on a Sara Silverman post because two that were arrested were her relatives. Sarah Silverman tweeted: SO proud of my amazing sister @rabbisusan & niece@purplelettuce95 for their ballsout civil disobedience. Ur the tits!#womenofthewall
The comic’s sister didn’t respond to her on Twitter, but her young niece Hallel teased: @SarahKSilverman hey auntie, want a copy of my mugshot?
The comic's shtick and the rabbi's preaching are "very similar" in spirit, Rabbi Susan explains. Both spread an important message to improve the world; while she interprets Scripture, her sister provokes by breaking taboos. The truth is that I really think of Sarah - you might laugh but I'm actually not joking - as like a biblical prophet, the Reform rabbi said in Jerusalem, where she lives with her husband and their five children. Sarah's really calling out the ills of society. She's saying: I'm not interested in your rituals, in what you pray and what you say. I'm interested in the fact that we live in this really racist society, that we live in this really violent world. She's interested in the [same] things that God actually is interested in.
As far as I am concerned, the world needs more Silvermans.
Her PSA last time was considered majorly significant in the vote turnout for Obama in Florida, especially among the older Jewish demographic.
ReplyDeleteShe's better than their congresswoman at being persuasive.
Granny get your gun! It's no accident that the singing renegade grannies are also from Florida!
