I guess I shouldn't be surprised that US opinion about Ukraine is now "fraying"

I should be surprised any interest has lasted as many news cycles as this has. I have too many reasons to care.

And Trump wasn't the start. The US has a history of being isolationist. I am of the opinion that it would have been neutral in both World Wars had US interests not been attacked (Lusitania and Pearl Harbour). The video is in French, but it gives a good rundown on US isolationism and other reasons for inactivity now.

I support Ukraine, but it is foolish for any direct action unless Putain is mad enough to attack a NATO nation. But there are a lot of things one can do that are not "direct military intervention". Supplying arms is one of them. Part joke: I tweeted to Shannon Watt that the US could encourage donating "assault weapons" to the Ukrainians. The Ukrainians have always been good at using captured weapons against conquerors: German and Russian.

(sorry I took a twitter break to see how the war is going. Ukrainians are kicking ass, but taking a lot of civilian casualties)

OK, Ukraine can do well without too much help from outside, but they need outside help. On the other hand, the Russians do intend on ending US's role as a "Superpower" (see this: https://fak.medium.com/the-russian-offensive-and-the-new-world-1220461b3bfb). Divisions in US aid to Ukraine only hasten the fall of the US in terms of its prestige in the world.

"The New American Century" may end up meaning a return to what it was before the 20th Century: a Western Hemisphere backwater.
