Wouldn't you try to avoid harming the people you are claiming to defend if that is your purported reason for illegally invading another country?

Bombing Kharkiv demonstrates he doesn't give a fuck about anyone other than Vladimir Vladimirovich. Or that he has totally lost it.
While this city is not in the Donetsk or Luhansk territories, it is east enough that there is a significant Russian population (25.6%). The number goes up to 44.3% if you go on language (that percentage speaks Russian as a first language). There was minor pro-Russian activity post Maidan.
But, even though there are ethnic Russians in this area, they are Ukrainian enough to fight the invading Russian Army.
Sadly, no one really paid much attention to this area before Putain threatened his invasion.
But, given the resistance the Russian Military is facing, this will not be a blitzkrieg by any standard.
It will be another Stalingrad. Putain has forgotten his history as there were several battles in this city during the "Great Patriotic War".
This may be yet another "Great Patriotic War" where an imperialist nation, Russia, is overrun by a smaller defending nation, Ukraine.
