Wishing all of our blog readers a very happy Thanksgiving.

Be safe, be warm, while you count your many blessings.  We count our readers and colleagues among our personal blessings, including (sometimes especially) those who disagree with us.  You are a very special element of what we do here; please know you are valued.

I am including a link to our blog roll 'hot word' of the day, which explains why/how our bird, the Turkey, was named for the country in Asia minor.
(Because it was.)  It also explains why our native Americans were mistakenly called Indians, aka 'Hindi-ans', or Hindus - as in residents of India.

I include an excerpt from the email thanksgiving that went out from the White House today, because whatever our various political positions, it is something I think we can all unite on:
"I also hope you'll join me in taking a moment to remember that the freedoms and security we enjoy as Americans are protected by the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces. These patriots are willing to lay down their lives in our defense, and each of us owes them and their families a debt of gratitude.
Have a wonderful day, and God bless.
Barack"
