The Voting Rights Act was re-authorized in 2006 and Congress debated and defeated an amendment that would have done what the Supremes say Congress should do now. That was just seven years ago ... not a half-century. In 2006, a majority of Republicans including Minnesotans Jim Ramstad and Mark Kennedy said it was DOJ review was still needed in some areas of the country ... what's different today ?
BTW ... voting in the minority that the states can do whatever it wants was John Kline.
