Like the US, Switzerland has a national mythology about its arms. In the Swiss case, being armed has contributed to its neutrality and never being "invaded".
But like the US, Switzerland's myth isn't really true. But it makes them feel good.

And I have been to Switzerland a few times.
You won't see a lot of people carrying guns in Geneva, but you will see UN and other groups dedicated to peace. Switzerland strengthened its gun laws in 2019 to keep it in line with the EU and the Schengen agreement.
