Stimulate THIS!

Regular readers are familiar with my devotion to fact check sources.

I  love politifact.com.

I adore factcheck.org.

I was delighted to see this in my email today; "New Fact Check Article: Did the Stimulus Create Jobs?".

Contrary to the FALSE claims by the Right this election campaign cycle, turns out ........... IT DID.

IT DID.

From the email  :

Did the Stimulus Create Jobs?

Yes, the stimulus legislation increased employment, despite false Republican claims to the contrary.

September 27, 201

      Summary

The economic stimulus package is a favorite target of Republican candidates and groups, but more than a few ads falsely claim it did not create or save any jobs. Some recent examples:

Republican House candidate Dan Debicella charges that Democratic Rep. Jim Himes failed Connecticut’s families because he voted for a “stimulus package that has done nothing to reduce unemployment.”

Rick Scott, the Republican candidate for governor in Florida, says Democrat Alex Sink “backed the failed stimulus bill, which created debt, not jobs.”

Similarly, Sink — who never served in Congress and didn’t vote on the bill — is attacked by the Republican Party of Florida in an ad that says the stimulus “gave us big debt and no jobs.”

Americans for Prosperity, a conservative group that does not have to disclose its donors, aired an ad against Democratic congressional candidate Denny Heck of Washington that claimed the “$787 billion stimulus … failed to save and create jobs.” The group has launched similar ads against other Democrats.

Kristi Noem, a Republican House candidate from South Dakota, calls the measure a “jobless stimulus.”

The truth is that the stimulus increased employment by between 1.4 million and 3.3 million people, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

That is a lot of jobs, to the credit of the left.

That is a lot of lies, to the discredit of the right.

Had the Right been able to block the President and the Democrats (and the Independents who caucus with them) in order to block them, in order to bring failure to this nation, its citizens, its businesses for their gain, their advantage, their politics they would have.

If you visit factcheck.org, the link immediately above goes specifically to the Stimulus page, but you should alsocheck out their analysis of the recent Republican pledge.

OR, you may see it here, next.

“I am proud as hell of what we have accomplished...
I stand behind what we have done and what we have voted for...
I stand behind what this president and this congress has been able to do…
I am proud as hell, not just on the economy…
I am proud as hell... I’m just proud as hell.”

    - Incumbent Congressman Jim Himes

Two-thirds of Fairfield County voters think that Washington is on the wrong track. Our congressman, Jim Himes, disagrees. He voted in favor of the $787 billion dollar stimulus plan. After saddling your family with over ten thousand dollars in additional debt, we still have a ten percent unemployment rate. Himes voted the healthcare bill into law, a law which is already projected to cost more than was advertised. He voted to increase our national debt by a record $1.9 trillion dollars, bringing our total debt to a new high of $12.4 trillion dollars. After two years of votes that create too few jobs but too big a role for government, most voters in Fairfield County disagree with each of these votes.

Paragraph of request for money, sure am glad this guy isn't looking to spend other people's money, because that would be ironically foney.

  4. Do you have any proof that an overwhelming majority of Fairfield County voters agree with you and not with Congressman Himes?

I'm not persuaded Himes was wrong.

Under the Republican administration, the national debt skyrocketed -- because of spending, and because of the Bush tax cuts.

Under the Obama administration, the national debt has gone DOWN by 8% - that is a big reduction in a relatively short time. Another recent report from Moody's shows the Stimulus as being responsible for jobs as intended resulting, contrary to so-called journalists on the right claiming otherwise.

You might want to do a fact check.

Without the stimulus, the Republican policies driving the 2007-2008, including their anti-regulation and enforcement decisions, would have been far worse than the current unemployment problems.

Contrary to the Republican spin, there has been significant job growth. Of particulary importance is the growth of manufacturing jobs - up steadily over 2010, and a good chunk of 2009. This is in direct contrast to the Republicans who are currently trying to protect the export of U.S.jobs overseas by big-Republican donating corporations.

What the right believes about policy doesn't match up with reality very well.

But if you have data to show otherwise, please share here!
