The term prima facie means it is evident on the face. The following is a pretty good prima facie argument there is something too lax in our gun regulation when we are allowing irresponsible, emotional thinking/irrational people with poor judgment but a love of guns to buy and own them.
This guy just made a very public ass of himself. Other gun nuts terrified of any restriction in their gun ownership have gone beyond stupidity in social media. A little over six weeks ago, coincidentally next to an elementary school, there was this incident of a police stand off. How many instances can you think of where a gun nut, afraid that 'they're cumm'n fer yer gunz', did stupid things, violent things, and ended up dead or arrested? That is the backlash reaction I worry about in this country when - not if - we enact better gun laws, and enforce them. The stupids with more guns than teeth, and the fanatics and the people who believed the NRA bullshit that Obama was going to personally kick in their doors and take their firearms (with or without embellishments, like the one world order, or the U.N. accompanying) are a clear danger to the rest of us, especially law enforcement.
An example of what I mean, post Newtown massacre, from one of the more slack-jawed mouth breather variety of gun lunatic, by way of Geekosystem:
In stunningly clear object lesson on “Things Not To Do, EVER,” World’s Least Classy Total Idiot candidate Korry Martinson has turned himself in to police who had been searching for him all weekend. Just hours after Friday’s horrific shooting in Connecticut, Martinson, 19, allegedly put up a Facebook post thanking the shooter for his actions and threatening to “go shoot up every school in a 100 mile radius” if he felt that the tragedy affected his rights as a gun owner. Now, KOMO News is reporting that Martinson, who was at best drastically overestimating the popular sense of humor level over Friday’s shooting, has been booked on charges of felony harassment for the threat. You can see a screenshot of the alleged post below, but if you’re among the many folks who are still kind of reeling from this one, be advised: it makes for exceedingly unpleasant reading.
Martinson’s Facebook page is currently unavailable, but the following screenshot of the post in question has been making the rounds:
It is unknown how seriously Martinson expected his threat to be taken, or whether he owns the firearms mentioned in the post. What is known is that Martinson can expect to be arraigned on charges of felony harassment in a Skagit County courtroom tomorrow morning.
This of course leaves us to note that, in a rather fitting turn of events, a felony conviction would, in fact, make it much more difficult for Martinson to legally own a firearm in the future. Points for irony, Mr. Martinson. Points for irony.

Maybe it's lead poisoning? from handling too many cartridges when they load their revolvers, semi-auto pistols and rifles, combat shotguns and allathat stuff.
ReplyDeleteI was just over at another blog and one of their regular posters who is a pretty smart guy is saying, with the same fervor that the morons at mikeb's place do, that WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT HIS GUNS.
I'm beginning to think it's some kind of DSM entry in the offing:
"Gunzloonery--n. The inability of an otherwise normal person to accept that when people are being killed with guns, removing the guns from the equation might stop or, at least, lessen the killing"
I really don't understand how people who can do other fairly normal, routine tasks and employ communications skills in the workplace can turn into yammering idiots when the subject of THINKING about some way to cut down on the number of people being killed with guns includes talking about the GUNS.
I hate to attribute this problem to anything, but it really seems that it might be the result of cognitive dissonance; the sort of cognitive dissonance that has people say they are christians who follow the lessons of a loving JESUS and still want to hate on teh GAY, blow up other peoples' countries, murder abortion doctors and all of those other quaint habits of a large minority of devout church goers and casual christians alike.
Democommie, I do believe it is the horse running back into the burning stable scenario.
ReplyDeleteHorses retreat to the place where they feel safe. They fear fire, but run back into a burning stable to regain that feeling of safety.
Gun nuts don't CARE that guns make them less safe in reality; the feeling they get from guns is a false sense of security, a sense of security that makes them believe they are invincible, like having superpowers. They can't get past the emotion to reason and fact, so they reject the facts, deny the reality of the statistics.
They act like the horses running back into the burning stable - they embrace the emotion rather than the reality that guns make them less safe - as unsafe as a burning building around them.
