As for people proposing that teachers should be armed, one wonders which world, or more accurately which century they’re living in. Armed teachers will not magically transform the school setting into a state of idealized ‘50s Ozzie and Harriet tranquility. Instead, teachers and their guns will now become the confrontational target of adolescent males intent on showing off or impressing their peers; making a name/proving themselves to a gang; are already a gang member and perceive a threat or disrespect to their attitude of territorial ownership; are intoxicated, disinhibited, and for whatever reason fixated on the nearby weapon; or any combination of these. These students would not have been a danger to teacher, classmates and selves before the introduction of guns, and arming teachers will only imperil their wellbeing.
