How High Is Mitt Romney?

The higher you go in our atmosphere, the colder it gets, and the lower the oxygen level goes.  This is true in mountainous states to such an extent that one has to cook and bake differently than at lower levels of altitude.  This is the reason airplanes have oxygen masks, and are pressurized.  There is a tremendous problem created if that difference in pressure alters, as it would if a window could open, AND it doing so would not resolve a lack of oxygen problem.

So, I have to ask myself if Mitt Romney is a different kind of 'high', the kind where a person has an altered state of consciousness, awareness, diminished brain function, given his comments during the Presidential campaign. Perhaps his 'high' comes from being detached from reality by existing only in the rarified stratosphere of the 1%, detached from regular daily living, cushioned from reality. It is like the disorientation that occurs with hypoxia, a lack of oxygen to the brain.

Clearly, someone with Romney's background should be aware of the basics of the history of taxation, especially after being governor of one of the original 13 colonies that became our founding original states.  So it would appear that Romney is playing dumb to the tea party base who do not know the history of actual taxation policies or the origins of the 16th Amendment.  The Tea Party, despite their claims of adoration for the U.S. Constitution, have some of the kookiest and most grotesquely inaccurate ideas of the contents of that document of any political segment of the nation.  We can only deduce that Romney KNOWS better, but is pandering again to the ignorant unwashed and the deluded rich, who have persecution complexes that the middle and lower classes are exploiting THEM.

There is a level here, of denial of reality and fact that is disturbing.

Then we have Romney claiming that so long as someone gets emergency room care, that is equivalent to general or maintenance health care, when it is very different, and economically disastrous - disastrous for the patient, for whom it does not provide the RIGHT health care or the needed health care, disastrous for the patient that it puts into bankruptcy, disastrous for the patient who is turned away - as some are, and disastrous for the society that has to pay for the badly suited overpriced care instead of cheaper, more cost-effective care that produces better outcomes.

There is a level here of denial of reality and fact that is disturbing.

Then we have the Romney statement about the windows of planes not opening.  This is like the incredibly stupid claim of Michele Bachmann that because carbon dioxide is natural, it cannot be harmful.  Apparently, Michele Bachmann is unaware that natural compounds like lead or arsenic in larger amounts can be extremely harmful, while it can be tolerated in very, very, very small amounts.
With Bachmann, we have become accustomed to an equal mix of ignorance and misinformation combined with deliberate and willful dishonesty.  But when we have Romney, who despite his Tea Party support - they just don't know any better - had appeared to have more intellect to bring to the table than this. It raises the question, is this just more of the pandering to the science-denial / intelligence and education repudiators? Is Mitt really this dumb, or is he just playing to the dumb right wing base? So, while this isn't one of his terrible policy gaffes, it is still a distubing casual insight into the mind - or lack of it - of Mitt Romney.  It is disturbing the way that John McCain being unfamiliar with the internet and email showed a disconnect from regular, modern life. John McCain, who didn't know how many houses he owned,  didn't 'do' the internet or email; he had someone do it for him.

There is a level here of denial of reality and fact that is disturbing.

I think Mitt may have overplayed his hand, and finally underestimated the knowledge of even the Tea Partiers and other anti-intellect anti-education segment of his base.  Mittens may have finally gone to far in denying reality and fact, to the point of disturbing his own supporters, if they can pull their attention away from visions of people riding around on dinosaurs 5,000 years ago to think about opening the windows while flying inside jet airplanes.

We can't afford to have another right wing ideologue who is this stupid in the office of President; we haven't gotten out of the mess the last one got us into yet.  We can't afford this kind of bone-deep ignorance.

So we can only hope that either Romney stops inhaling whatever has made him high, if not marijuana, then maybe he's suffering from a lack of oxygen from rolling down the windows at 40,000 feet while flying in a jet plane.  Whatever it is that is causing him to be this stupid, even Tea Partiers and other Republicans know better than Mitt.
