“Sunny” … but is it more accurate to say “I am an anchor baby. My family are economic refugees. I see immigration everyday as weighing down the Republican brand. I see good in immigration as an issue to trick Latinos to support my ambitions to be President.”
Senator Rubio needs to define “immigration” … isn’t that a legal process in which a person seeks legal entry stating their intentions before entering into the United States ? His parents entered this country in 1956 looking for economic opportunity. In 1956, Cuba was a highly educated nation, with a billion dollars invested by US companies and considered to be a prime vacation spot. Castro was not in power. America on the other hand was considered to be the most admired place in the world … the place that everybody wanted to live. Rubio’s parents “flew” into the America and settled into Miami with no intentions of leaving.
You want “Sunny” then listen to the story of Gloria Estefan. Cuban-born, Gloria's family moved to Miami, Florida when she was 16 months old, following the Cuban Revolution in 1959. Gloria’s father José Fajardo, who in the 1950s was a personal bodyguard to then Cuban President Fulgencio Batista's wife, was captured in the ill-fated Bay of Pigs Invasion that attempted to overthrow the new communist government established by Fidel Castro. Gloria’s father was held as a prisoner until an exchange was arranged by President John F. Kennedy. Estefan has spoken often of her desire for a free and democratic Cuba. She has been an active opponent of Fidel Castro’s government, and supported the unsuccessful effort to keep young Elián González in the United States. Estefan has spoken out at the LA May Day Illegal Immigrant rally, against the Arizona laws and held fundraisers for President Obama.
Gloria Estefan has lived the “life” that Marco Rubio wants people to think he has lived.
