Update: one of the victims, who had both legs amputated, has been of special help in identifying at least one of the bombers to law enforcement, having looked him in the eye a minute or two before the bomb next to him exploded.
The breaking news this morning is that Boston law enforcement has killed one of the bomber/terrorists after a running gun battle which also involved some bomb throwing at law enforcement.
Breaking news, which we have learned to be cautious trusting, is identifying the two alleged terrorists as from the Chechnya area of Russia, and noting they have lived here in the U.S. for at least a year, possibly longer.
The two suspects robbed a convenience store (allegedly) and car jacked an SUV. They are reported as having identified themselves in the car jacking as the terrorists. The reason for them engaging in these acts of violence has not been specified so far.
Mass transit and private transportation has been shut down, as law enforcement seeks the remaining terrorist.
What is clear is that we have failed, with our lax gun laws, to prevent terrorists from far too easily obtaining assault style weapons that were used against our law enforcement community, killing at least one, possibly two of them, injuring one, and certainly putting everyone in the Boston area at risk, whether citizens or visitors.
No concealed carrying 'good guy with a gun' has done anything to prevent this kind of terrorism. Our lenient, lax gun laws have only jeopardized law enforcement, putting them at greater risk in defending and protecting people. In countries with more strict gun laws, these events that result in citizens and law enforcement being killed by firearms are rare, and more in this specific case was done by the success of surveillance cameras to stop these terrorists than by private gun ownership.
The breaking news - which should be taken with the expectation that it will be updated, corrected and revised as better information becomes available - is now suggesting that not only did the two brothers who have been identified as the bombers are being reported as possibly having some kind of military training, although it is unclear where that training took place. Further, the latest reports as I watch the unfolding news are suggesting that these two terrorists may have had assistance from sources here, with the implication being militia groups that engage in paramilitary training, because the brothers have lived in this country since they were children, rather than foreign military training.

NPR was saying, as of 8:55 or thereabouts, that the dead man was 26 years old, a former Golden Gloves boxer and had lived in the U.S. for possibly 5-6 years.
