At the National Rifle Association Convention this week, RAW story picked up on one of the speakers advising attendees to keep guns in their children's bedrooms. This, in spite of the shootings of siblings by children that made the national news. It also reminded me of the little known detail of the Sandy Hook shootings, that Nancy Lanza kept HER gun safe in her son Adam Lanza's bed room... and we all know how that worked out.
Nancy Lanza of course was a survivalist right wing nut just like the speakers and leadership of the NRA, which is a far right wing extremist organization. Not all members, but clearly all of the NRA leadership has been since 1977, and the use they make of their organization reflects that. We need to put a stop to the bunkers-and-bullets mentality; the gun culture is an epic fail in this country, and a far bigger threat to all of us than intruders or fictional zombies or hordes or rampaging liberals who are cummin' fer yer guns when the country breaks down and the UN/commies/illuminati/one world order armed forces/muslims and homosexuals invade. Time for the old, white, crabby and flabby to put away their masculinity and adequacy substitutes.
Meanwhile, the reality is that Americans, with these guns, are killing fellow Americans, and those are rarely 'DGU' shootings (defensive gun use, for those not familiar with the acronyms and jargon).

NRA speaker’s advice: Keep a gun in your child’s room
A home-defense seminar at this weekend’s National Rifle Association convention urged parents to overcome their initial misgivings and store firearms in their childrens’ bedrooms, Think Progress reported on Saturday.
“If you’re worried that your kid is going to try to break into the safe that is in their bedroom with a gun in it, you have bigger problems than home defense,” said speaker Rob Pincus, a former police officer who know heads up his own firearms instruction company, I.C.E. Training. “If you think that the kid who’s going to try to break into the safe because it’s in their room isn’t sneaking into your room to try to break into stuff, you’re naive and you have bigger problems than this.”
If a parent is “in the middle of the house” when their home alarm goes off overnight, Pincus said, and they are going to head for their childrens’ room to defend against an intruder, it made sense to stash a gun in their closet.
