Suicide should be part of the discussion. Rough math implies that 29,000 are killed every year with a gun being involved.
According to 2009 statistics, there were 18,735 suicides using a firearm. Some of these may be impulse suicides where a gun was available ... but some may be planned actions ... and it makes you wonder how many people acquired a gun just to be able to kill themselves ? And how many deaths are "suicide-by-cop" ?
I wonder what the statistics of gun-suicides are in Oregon, Washington, and Montana where assisted-suicide is legal.
